Effect of type of binder on growth, digestibility, and energetic balance of Octopus maya ArchiMer
Rosas, C; Tut, J; Baeza, J; Sanchez, A; Sosa, V; Pascual, C; Arena, L; Domingues, P; Cuzon, Gerard.
The present study was designed to test the effects of type of binder on growth, nutritional physiology, total apparent digestibility, and some elements of the energetic balance of early O. maya juveniles. Two experiments were performed. One was aimed at evaluating the effect of type of binder on growth, nutritional physiology, and energetic balance and the other at knowing the effect of the binder on total apparent digestibility of O. maya. Binder type affected growth and survival of early O. maya juveniles. Octopuses fed alginate-bound crab meat lost weight and died, revealing that this type of binder limits nutrient absorption from the diet. In contrast, when gelatin was used as binder, energetic balance was similar to that obtained in animals fed...

Effects of dietary energy levels using calcium salts of fatty acids on nutritive value of diets and milk quality in peripartum dairy goats Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Souza,Rodrigo de; Alcalde,Claudete Regina; Hygino,Bruna; Molina,Bruna Susan de Labio; Santos,Geraldo Tadeu dos; Gomes,Ludmila Couto.
Peripartum is a critical period for dairy goats, as dry matter intake (DMI) is not enough to supply the energy requirement for foetal growth and subsequent lactation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of calcium salts of fatty acids (CSFA) to increase dietary energy level of peripartum dairy goats and its effects on nutritive value of diets and milk quality. Twenty multiparous Saanen goats (body weight 63.5±10.3 kg) were distributed in a completely randomised design in four treatments at the following dietary energy levels: 2.6 Mcal of metabolisable energy per kg of dry matter (Mcal ME/kg DM) - control diet; and 2.7, 2.8, and 2.9 Mcal/kg DM - with added CSFA. Goats were housed in individual stalls and evaluated in the peripartum period,...

Effects of Dietary Protein Level and Betaine Supplementation on Nutrient Digestibility and Performance of Japanese Quails Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Ratriyanto,A; Indreswari,R; Nuhriawangsa,AMP.
ABSTRACT This study investigated the effects of dietary protein levels and betaine supplementation on nutrient digestibility and performance of Japanese quails. In total, 765 Japanese quails were randomly assigned to a 3×3 factorial arrangement, with five replicates of 17 quails each. Three basal diets were formulated to contain three crude protein levels (16.5, 18.0, and 19.5%). Each protein level was supplemented with 0, 0.06, and 0.12% betaine. The diet with 16.5% dietary crude protein with no betaine supplementation resulted in the lowest crude fiber digestibility, while the 18.0% CP diet supplemented with 0.12% betaine generated the highest crude fiber digestibility (p<0.05). The diets with 18.0 and 19.5% crude protein increased crude fiber...

Effects of dietary tannin on growth, feed utilization and digestibility, and carcass composition in juvenile European seabass ( Dicentrarchus labrax L.) ArchiMer
Omnes, Marie-helene; Le Goasduff, Julien; Le Delliou, Herve; Le Bayon, Nicolas; Quazuguel, Patrick; Robin, Jean.
Plant-based products in fish diets are valuable protein alternatives to fishmeal for the aquafeed industry. Many plant feed ingredients contain polyphenolic compounds, including tannins, which can have beneficial or adverse effects. The tolerable threshold of ingested tannins is unknown for marine carnivorous fishes. We studied the effects of tannic acid (TA) supplementation to the diet of juvenile European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) by measuring growth, feed utilization and digestibility, and carcass composition. We randomly allocated groups of fish (initial mean body weight of 10.2 ± 0.7 g; n = 40 fish per tank) to 12 replicate cylindrical-conical tanks (three per treatment). The fish were assigned to one of four dietary treatments for five weeks:...

Energy-protein management by some warmwater finfishes. ArchiMer
Luguet, P; Moreau, Y.
If warmwater finfish protein requirements as level in diet is low, absolute intake per day is similar to those of coldwater species. But relation of this requirement with specific growth rate differs for strictly warmwater fishes as Tilapias. Analysis of partition between protein and non-protein energy retention shows that these species with Clarias make a better use of non-protein energy provided and consequently improve their protein retention. Better carbohydrate digestibility and metabolism are propounded as part of the explanation.
